The oldest course in the Charleston area is the Yeamans Hall Club which opened in 1925 and the longest course is Kiawah Island Resort Ocean Course, which is 7,937 yards. The course that is rated the best is the Country Club of Charleston.

The Country Club of Charleston is celebrated as one of the premier golf clubs of the Southeast. It is a Private Club with 18 holes over 6,587 yards with a par of 71. It is just 6 miles from the center of Charleston. Designed by Seth Raynor, it opened in 1926.  It is beautifully maintained at tournament-conditions year round with a 5-star reputation

Yeamans Hall Club is another Private Club and Seth Raynor designed course with 18 holes over 6,541 yards with a par of 71 just 5 miles from the center of Charleston. As the oldest course, it has been called “a time capsule in Charleston”. It has wide, tree-lined fairways with some unique design features like horseshoe contours within the greens. Raynor believed the beauty of this course would cause people to fall in love with golf.

Daniel Island Club is Charleston’s only 36-hole private Community Golf Club with two 18-hole championship private golf courses. One is 7,093 yards with a par of 72 and the other is 7,446 yards with a par of 72. Both are 6 miles from the center of Charleston on Daniel Island, an island town within historic Charleston. The spectacular coastal setting of the Daniel Island Club’s nationally-ranked courses culminates on the marsh-lined back lawn of the clubhouse, a favored place for dining, social gatherings, and lifetime events.

Patriots Point Links on the Charleston Harbor is an 18-hole course over 6900 yards with a par of 72 Public Golf Course located in Mount Pleasant, 7 miles from the center of Charleston. Situated on the edge of the Charleston Harbor, it has spectacular views of the Harbor, the City, Fort Sumter, and ships arriving from all over the world. Amenities include a lighted driving range, PGA instruction, southern style clubhouse, golfers’ grill and patio, and one of the most popular wedding and event facilities in the Charleston region. Sea breezes make the course play different each time you play.

Wild Dunes Resort Links Course located on the Isle of Palms is where land meets the sea on the 18-hole course over 6,500 yards with a par of 72 Public Golf Course. Rustling palms line the lush, rolling fairways overlooking massive dunes and the sparkling Atlantic Ocean. This is one of the world’s best golf courses. Amenities include a driving range and pro shop.

Kiawah Island Golf Resort Ocean Course has 18 holes over 7,937 yards with a par of 72 Public Golf Course, 17 miles from the center of Charleston. Golfers at every skill level will find this course challenging. With terrific views, well-groomed fairways and greens keep Kiawah Island - The Ocean Course difficult yet friendly.

Kiawah Island Golf Resort Osprey Point Course has 18 holes over 6,871 yards with a par of 72 Public Golf Course. It is located 17 miles from the center of Charleston. It has very generous fairways and greens, along with natural lagoons along many of the holes. It began as a private club and evolved into a championship-level course with a world-class layout. Completely renovated in 2014 by course architect Tom Fazio, it offers playability and beauty with five-star reviews for their exquisite clubhouse and immaculate conditions.

Both courses are 9-hole, regulation length courses with a par 72 only 7 miles from the center of Charleston. They are open to the public and located on James Island. Situated on 120 acres of land between the Stono River and historic Riverland Terrace, which is one of James Island’s oldest neighborhoods. The ‘Muni’, as locals call it, has terrific views and challenging play for golfers at every skill level, having well-groomed fairways and greens. Charleston City residents can register for discounts on green fees.

Westcott Golf Club, Oak Forest Course is a 9-hole over 3,563 yards course with a par of 36. As a Municipal Golf Course, it is open to the public. It is located 10 miles from the center of Charleston in Summerville, SC. The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation is part of one of the area's oldest plantations. There are 27 holes of golf at the club, which are divided into three nine-hole courses: Oak Forest, Burn Kill, and Black Robin. Each course has lush vegetation with centuries-old live oaks and wetlands. The Oak Forest Course takes its name from the original plantation and has wider fairways than the other two courses.

Shadowmoss Plantation Golf Course has 18 holes over 6,700 yards with a par of 71 Semi-private Club, open for public play and offering memberships. Golf Digest praises Shadowmoss Golf & Country Club as “the best golf value in Charleston”. It is located 12 miles from downtown Charleston.

Charleston National Golf Club is an 18-hole course over 7100 yards with a par of 72, Semi-Private Golf Course, open year-round to the public, and offering memberships. It is located 13 miles from the center of Charleston in Mount Pleasant, SC. It is a uniquely beautiful Rees Jones-designed championship golf course with a full-size state-of-the-art practice facility and driving range. The course winds along the Intracoastal Waterway through wetlands and lagoons and through a pine and oak tree forest with some of the best views on the coast.

Crowfield Golf Club is an 18-hole course over 7,003 yards with a par of 72 Semi-Private Golf Course that is open to the public and offering memberships. Located 11 miles from the center of Charleston. This course is very challenging, having multiple terrain features and diverse greens. This may be the best public course in the Charleston area. The team of professionals run the course efficiently and are always friendly and professional.

Legend Oaks Golf Club is an 18-hole course over 6,974 yards with a par of 72. It is a Semi-Private Golf Course, open to the public with memberships available, located in Summerville, SC, 15 miles from the center of Charleston. It is surrounded by natural beauty: 300-year-old majestic live oak trees, towering pines and a wide variety of Lowcountry wildlife. This championship golf course provides a challenge for golfers of all levels. 

The Links at Stono Ferry Golf Course has 18-holes over 6,616 yards with a par of 72. It is a Semi-Private Golf Course, open to the public with memberships available. It also has an extensive practice facility with target greens, as well as practice chipping and putting greens. It is located in Hollywood, SC, 12 miles from the center of Charleston in South Carolina’s Lowcountry, where golfers can enjoy breezes from the Intracoastal Waterway and centuries-old live oaks. The front nine fairways wind through majestic pines but Stono Ferry is known for its impressive back nine, its scenic views and the new heart-pounding island-green 18th hole. Golfers of all abilities can experience exciting golf along the Intracoastal Waterway.

RiverTowne Country Club is a scenic 18-hole championship golf course over 6,834 yards with a par of 72 Semi-Private Golf Club, open for public play and offering memberships located in Mount Pleasant. It is Charleston’s only Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course, located in scenic marshlands, having 13 holes along the Wando River and Horlbeck Creek. It has exceptional year-round playing conditions with tree-lined fairways, stunning scenery and a course that will challenge even seasoned golfers.

Red Bank Plantation Golf Course is a military, 18-hole golf course over 5,382 yards with a par of 70 designed by Military Personnel. It is located only 8 miles from the center of Charleston, South Carolina, in Goose Creek within the gates of Joint Base Charleston, Weapons Station. The course is open to the public without having to be accompanied by an authorized patron when you apply for a Golf Patron Pass and pay a modest application processing fee. The golf course winds through 125 acres of rolling Lowcountry terrain of huge live oaks with hanging moss and views of the Cooper River. At any time of the day, you can find osprey, eagles, wild turkey, fox, whitetail deer and an abundance of alligators on the course.

Wrenwoods Golf Course at Charleston Air Force Base is an 18-hole regulation length course in Joint Base Charleston, restricted to military, DoD and retirees is only 5 miles from Charleston.
